There were few surprises on the results board on the final day of New York YC’s Race Week at Newport, with more of the same from the class winners; most held onto leads established on the first day.The Rolex for best overall performance among IRC competitors was awarded to the Andrew Fisher’s Swan 45 Bandit, who led from the first day and won IRC Class 2. Winning 6 of 11 races, with just 1 race out of the top 3 during the whole regatta, Bandit was dominant, but wasn’t able to relax too much, as the Taylor 45 Sforzando, owned by Blair Brown, was on their heels during the most of the regatta. The PHRF performance belonged to Tom Rich’s Peterson 42 Settler. The team won every race over the course of the regatta and quickly shut the door on the other boats in PHRF Class 5; the second-place finisher in the class was 18 points behind. Some other notable performances came in IRC Class 4. Though the Beneteau 44.7 Four Stars was the leader by a considerable margin for the whole regatta, there was a three-way race for the second-place spot. The Express 37 Troubador, Swan 44 Vixen, and IMX 40 Elixir were all in contention going into Wednesday’s racing. Elixir retired after finishing race 6, which dropped them down to third overall, though they scored two bullets earlier. Troubador held second going into Wednesday, but had a deep finish in the penultimate race, giving the second spot to Vixen, who finished second in that race and won the last one.PHRF Class 6 was one of the few classes with comparatively tight racing for the first later in the regatta. The Frers 36 Freightrain, owned by Richard Hyde, and the Quest 32 Jest, owned by Anson Stookey and Phip Hollowell, were neck and neck throughout the regatta, combining to record all but one first-place finish. A relatively deep 5th for Jest in race 4 and a couple more firsts for Freightrain gave them the edge in the end. Top-Three ResultsDay 4/ Final for PHRF, IRC, Classics and 12 Metres IRC Class 11.
