Terry’s Tips: Be Ready For the Change

A course change usually comes at the worse time possible: while you’re rounding a mark in a pile up. But that whistle and Code Flag Charlie will have the info you need to make a move and get ahead, according to Terry Hutchinson. You just have to be ready for it.

NYYC Swan 42 Nationals

The 2013 NYYC Swan 42 Nationals (July 18-20) consisted of 10 races in winds from 8 to 20 knots on the Rhode Island Sound and in Narragansett Bay. John Hele (Rye, N.Y.) and his largely Canadian team aboard Daring won the 15-boat regatta by an impressive 19 points.

Extreme Series: Porto Highlights

Dolphins, great breeze, and two wildcard team entries ensured that Act 5 of the Extreme Sailing Series in Porto did not disappoint. Even after 30 races, the point spread was so tight that the top two teams–The Wave, Muscat, and Alinghi–entered into the final double pointer with just three points between them.

Rolex Farr 40 North American Championship

In the waters just off of Martha’s Vineyard, 11 teams from six nations raced in the Rolex Farr 40 North American Championship. Nico Poons of Monaco and his predominantly Dutch crew aboard Charisma sealed their victory with just 25 total points. They finished out of the top two only twice throughout the four day series.
