Nearly 200 international yachts flocked to this sun-kissed town to celebrate the Giraglia Rolex Cup’s 60th anniversary this year. The regatta is aptly nicknamed “Queen of the Mediterranean,” both for its historic roots and its magnificent scenery. Oh, and the fierce conditions and competition that await the daring competitors. Esimit Europa 2 smashed the race record by over three hours, completing the 242-nautical mile race from Saint-Tropez, France to Sanremo, Italy, in just over 14 hours.[

Over 100 boats competed in the Around the Island (Conanicut) race this past weekend, followed by the 158th New York Yacht Club Annual Regatta itself which had a showing of 133 boats. This is the oldest regatta in America. Photos by Billy Black/Rolex

The Columbia Yacht Club hosted the COLORS regatta on June 2-3 in Chicago, Illinois. The racing featured several One Design classes, including Farr 40s, J 111s, T-10s and J 105s. There was also a Distance Race and PHRF racing to complete the fun. Photos courtesy of Tom Besore at TomsMedia.SmugMug.com

At Bay Week in the Lake Erie Islands, the spinnakers are rainbow colored and Steve Perry wails late into the night.

Nights like last are both the cause of, and cure for, my end-of-summer dread.

We were in the cheap seats, but we had a plan to improve the view.

The wind died, but the tide kept going, and as the finish line faded ever further, SW‘s Michael Lovett began listening to his inner weasel.
