As a part of our May issue’s 2011 Guide to College Sailing, presented by Sperry Top Sider, we asked current and former college sailors for their best advice on navigating freshman year. We received two dozen entries, the best of which, by Tufts sailor Amelia Quinn, is featured in the magazine. But we couldn’t let all this great advice remain hidden, so we’ve published the five other finalists online.

With just over a month remaining until the spring championships, Roger Williams has taken over the top spot in the coed rankings, with Georgetown and Charleston in hot pursuit. Boston College is the top women’s, taking 15 of 19 first-place votes.

As the nationals near, the top of the college rankings are becoming quite crowded. Boston College leads the co-ed rankings, but only by the slimmest of margins over Charleston and Georgetown. Brown is the top women’s team.

Sperry Top-Sider’s new effort in support of college sailing includes the “Excellence in College Sailing” grant, a discount program with West Marine, and more.

Dethroned by the College of Charleston, Boston College drops from the top of the Coed rankings for the first time in weeks.

Boston College remains the top team in the country, leading the coed rankings and coming second in the women’s poll. But Georgetown is close behind, second in the coed and third in the women’s. St. Mary’s also has both teams ranked in the top 5 as the spring season gathers steam.

The first rankings of the 2011 season are for the birds, with the Boston College Eagles reining supreme in the coed rankings and the St. Mary’s Seahawks dominating the women’s rankings.

All eyes are focused on the spring season and the season-ending national championships this coming May and June. But one last task remains from the Fall 2010 season, to rank the teams within each division.

With the final fall regattas in the books, Boston College maintains the top spot in the coed rankings, thought just points separates BC from Georgetown. In the women’s rankings, St. Mary’s takes over top honors after a strong performance at the Atlantic Coast Championships.

Skipper Taylor Canfield led the Eagles to victory at Kings Point, New York.
