505 Worlds Come to Annapolis

Chesapeake Bay 505 sailors make a bid to bring their world championship to familiar territory, with hopes that light winds don’t spook the herd.

2012 SAP 505 World Championship

With a staggering 188 boats, the 505 fleet employed a gate or rabbit start to give the entire fleet an equal chance during the starting phase. Over six days, just nine races were completed, leading to a tight point spread and ensuring that no place on the podium was locked down until the finish line. The team of Jan Saugmann and Martin Gorge (DEN 8964) snagged a third place in the final race, leap-frogging them into first overall.
