New Italian IMOCA For Sale

The latest IMOCA to sport lateral foils has hit the water, and it's up for sale.

A brand new IMOCA 60 is up for grabs in Italy. The team Vento di Sardegna joined the fray as the latest IMOCA boat to sport foils, only to come up short of the necessary funds to finish the project. Unfortunately for Andrea Mura, of the Italian team, a primary sponsor could not be lined up before the start of the upcoming Transat Jacques Vabre, a required event for any team hoping to participate in the Vendee Globe, and as such the boat had to be sold.

There is no word yet as to where the boat is headed, however the Italians are confident a new team will buy the boat quickly, and they wish them the best of luck.

Another VPLP design, the new IMOCA joins the likes of Safran, Banque Populaire, and Gitana as the latest breed of new 60s produced this year with lateral foils. The foils are still new to the class, and despite tests showing positive impacts on boat speed, many of the new boats have opted for traditional daggerboards, like the latest Hugo Boss for Alex Thompson.

The chance to own a nearly complete, cutting edge VPLP designed IMOCA with the latest foil tech doesn’t come by often; the boat will likely see a new owner very soon.
