First built in Rimini, Italy, starting in 1999, there are now more than 50 BluSail 24s in Europe. North American distributor James Kaspersetz expected to import the first two boats into the United States before the fall boat shows with another two going to Canada.
Designer Luca Brenta wanted a fast, affordable one-design class. Following these guidelines, the boat is constructed with vinylester resin and fiberglass vacuum bonded over an Airex core. The steel keel has a lead bulb, and class rules specify an aluminum mast, Dacron main, and 105-percent jib. The $31,000 price includes sails. The 470-sq. ft. asymmetric spinnaker is extra.
The boat features a V-berth and two quarter berths with sitting headroom. While not yet rated, the PHRF rating for the BluSail 24 is expected to range from 130 to 135.
