Close Races from J/22s Highlights First Day of Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta

Annapolis-based boats place top 3 in class

More than 200 masts descended upon Chesapeake Bay today to kickoff the Annapolis leg of the Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta, the largest sailboat racing series in the country. And despite weak winds and stormy conditions that lingered throughout the day, eight of the 17 boat classes competing in the event were able to complete races. Highlighting day one were strong showings from local Annapolis boats in the J/22 class, which is one of the largest competing this weekend and is also holding its East Coast Championships in conjunction with the event. The top three placing boats in the 36 boat class all hail from Annapolis.Leading Edge _holds the lead after posting an impressive one-point first-day tally. _Hot Toddy and Handbasket also posted admirable scores today, two-points and three-points respectively, and look figure into to the equation over the course of the final two days of competition.
