Racing NewsGermans on ParadeUnited Internet Team Germany is embarking on a three-date road show across Germany to promote the country’s first-ever America’s Cup challenge. Making stops at the Bavarian YC in Starnberg, the Verein Seglerhaus at the Wannsee in Berlin, and the Dusseldorf YC, the team will showcase its boat, GER 72, perform sailing demonstrations, and participate in question-and-answer sessions.Although the German team currently sits second to last in Louis Vuitton rankings, enthusiasm remains high with head of syndicate Michael Scheeren. “This road show gives our sponsors a really good opportunity to invite their customers and guest to beautiful locations,” said Scheeren. “It is very important for us to awaken the America´s Cup awareness in Germany.” For the latest United Internet Team Germany news, click here . Gilmour Wins Third Match Racing Title, Second BMWPeter Gilmour defeated Ian Williams 2-1 in the finals of the Locman Cup – Elba Island, winning the regatta and capping off his championship season in the World Match Racing Tour.As the tour champion, a victory Gilmour secured back in June by winning Match Race Germany, the Australian skipper also won a new BMW X3 sport utility vehicle.This is Gilmour’s third consecutive World Match Racing Tour title, and his second time winning a new BMW. ICSA Adds Four to Hall of FameThe Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) recently acknowledged the contributions of four individuals to the sport of college sailing by inducting them into the ICSA Hall of Fame. Karl Kleinschrodt received the Student Leadership Award for his Herculean effort starting the sailing program at University of Southern Alabama. Lawrence White was presented with the Lifetime Service Award for, among other things, reviving the sailing program at the United States Coast Guard Academy. And Brad Churchill and Ken Legler were recognized with Graham Hall Coaching Awards for their contributions as coaches at, respectively, Boston University and Tufts.Industry NewsHawks Hunting For New Sailing CoachRoger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island seeks applicants for the position of Head Sailing Coach/Waterfront Coordinator. Duties include coaching, teaching, practice, game preparation, recruiting, supervision of assistant coaches and fundraising activities, and overseeing the university’s learn-to-sail program.Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor’s Degree, a minimum of two years coaching experience, US Sailing certification, motor boat license, and CPR/first aid certification.
