Ingham Aces Thistle Midwinters West

News brief

Race report submitted by Karl Felger

The 2007 Thistle Midwinters West and Larry Klein Match Race Regatta were held at Mission Bay Yacht Club in San Diego. Dave Bloomberg organized the event and continued the tradition of having an incredible event with excellent race management and off the shore activities that were more fun than you can shake a stick at. The Larry Klein Match Race regatta, held in conjunction with MWW, is unique in Thistle racing as it’s the only time most Thistle sailors experience match racing besides watching the America’s Cup. In fact, maybe we should let Mike Ingham (#3969) drive on of those big boats; he showed solid form in being ranked No. 1 after three qualifying races and then beating local West Coaster Terry Lettenmaier (#3922) in the finals. The fleet-racing portion of Midwinters West offers a welcome detour from normal venues in that it allows for racing on the Pacific Ocean and its famous rollers on Friday and Saturday, and then has racing inside Mission Bay on Sunday, providing for intense, trying, and thoroughly enjoyable sailing conditions. Again, Mike Ingham showed off his skills by winning the 9-race regatta with 11 points.Thislte Midwinters West Results Championship Division1. Mike Ingham (11 pts) 2. Terry Lettenmaier (31 pts) 3.
