Seventeen IMOCA 60 skippers will compete in the 2016 Transat New York – Vendee Race, a 3,100 mile course from New York to Les Sables d’Olonne, Before the start at the end of may, teams will gather in North Cove Marina in Manhattan.

The Transat will serve as a final opportunity for skippers who have not yet qualified for the Vendee Globe. For those that have, the race offers a final chance to put their boats and themselves to the test before the big event in just 6 months.

In the most recent Transat event ending in New York over the last week, the foiler Banque Populaire took the win, but the classic PRB was hot on his heels. With no definitive answer proven for the foilers having the upper hand, it will likely come down to the main stage when the Vendee Globe kicks off.
