Four More Classes Named to 2002 U.S. Sailing Team

Stuart Streuli

The Olympic Sailing Committee of US SAILING has named the members of it’s 2002 U.S. Sailing Team in the Europe, Finn, and Mistral classes. They join athletes previously announced in the 470, Laser, Tornado, and Yngling classes. Still yet to be named are the team members in the 49er and Star classes.

Rankings and selection are based on attendance and performance at a series of qualifying regattas. This year, for the first time, the ranking system designated a mandatory ranking regatta–the Rolex Miami OCR–for sailors working toward the team. A complete explanation of the ranking system is available at: http://www.ussailing.org/Olympics/2002/rankingsystems.htm.

Finn: Geoff Ewenson (Annapolis, Md./Newport, R.I.); Mo Hart (Santa Cruz, Calif./S. Portland, Maine); Darrell Peck (Gresham, Ore.); Andy Kern (Chicago); and Bryan Boyd (Jacksonville, Fla.).
