After three races of Louis Vuitton Act 13, the three highest-ranked syndicates– Alinghi, BMW Oracle Racing, and Emirates Team New Zealand– sit in, respectively, first, second, and third place. Although the Swiss defender holds the lead, the team has been anything but perfect thus far. They were over early in Race 1 and late for the start of Race 2. In Race 3, both Mascalzone Latino-Capitalia and BMW Oracle Racing gave Alinghi a run for its money. Despite its fallibility, the syndicate won the last two races by demonstrating veteran composure in trying conditions. “The racing [on Wednesday] was more like the 2003 venue in Auckland with a lot of wind and very shifty,” said tactician and team skipper Brad Butterworth. “It was hard for all the boats to maintain their positions throughout the racing. We had very good crew work, which saved the day for us. Really it was a crew work day.” Racing resumes on Friday, having been abandoned on Thursday.
