Team GBR's 'Fine Art on Sail'

Shape-shifters of the print world Eley Kishimoto--Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto--present a unique perspective on Olympic Star sailing. The pair will be the first artists in Britain to have their work on an Olympic Star class sail.

The 'Fine Art on Sail' commemorates the silver medal that Iain Percy and Andrew (Bart) Simpson won at the Games in Weymouth, as it was used during their training prior to the event. It carries the number 8371, which was used by the sailors at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and their world title winning races at the Championships in Rio. The gold star on the sail indicates that it's from a world championship winning team.

"The striking repetitive zig-zag, left, right, movement in the design aligns with the sailboat tacking repetitively between port and starboard,” says concept founder Michael Ross. “The very regular defined pattern connects with the discipline of an elite medal winning Olympian, their honed ability to maintain the precision of movement leads to gold."

Eley Kishimoto’s “Camo Chevron” was chosen to go on the official Team GBR sail. Famous for their wallpapers, furniture, furnishing fabrics, glassware and crockery, Eley Kishimoto are the first artists in Britain to have their work on an Olympic Star class sail (for more on the Star class, click here). The sail was hoisted on an Olympic Star near Tower Bridge, leaving from South Dock Marina, Canary Wharf, and skippered by John Gimson, a strong contender for Team GBR in Brazil 2016.
