TeamOrigin Bows Out of 34th America's Cup

TeamOrigin is the first of the established teams to decline BMW Oracle Racing's vision for the future of the America's Cup.

Their response to the catamaran annoucement a few weeks ago could best be described as tepid. Now TeamOrigin has made it official, the stocked British team, which recently brought in ex-Alinghi design coordinator Grant Simmer to run the show, will not be contending for the 34th America's Cup.

More information will follow, this quote from team principle Sir Keith Mills, was distributed by team PR.

"“After three years of waiting in the wings to enter a British team in the America’s Cup I am bitterly disappointed that we will not be competing. However, the format and timetable decided by the Defender, BMW/Oracle, is simply not viable for TEAMORIGIN. We have assembled an outstanding team, led by Grant Simmer and Ben Ainslie, and I am personally very sorry that they won’t now get the chance to race for a British team in the next America’s Cup”, said Sir Keith Mills.

The team will evaluate other sailing options over the next few months. The full release is available here.
