The regatta management group OC Events recently announced plans for The Transat 2008. Started as the OSTAR in 1960, the race has featured such ocean racing legends as England's Sir Francis Chichester and France's Eric Tabarly.The 13th edition of the race will begin in May 2008 from a yet-to-be-named port in the United Kingdom and finish at a yet-to-be-named North American port. Among the cities bidding for the start is Plymouth, England. The official notice of race will be published later this spring, defining the other invited classes, exact course, dates, and conditions.
