Richardson and LeForte on Top in Miami

Farr one-design classes battle in the South

November 19, 2001

Jim Richardson’s Farr 40 Barking Mad and Jack LeFort’s Mumm 30 Off the Gauge nailed the top two slots in the 2001 Lewmar Cup Sunday afternoon off Miami Beach. Ending on a windy note–20-knots plus–the eight-race event had a respectable turnout, 12 Farr 40s and 20 Mumm 30s.

Barking Mad owned its class early on, going into the final day with a 10-point lead, while the Mumm 30 winner wasn’t determined until the final race. Kent Plunkett’s Paydirt had a 3-point lead Sunday morning but a missed shift during the second race of the day gave them an eighth-place finish which allowed Off the Gauge to take the tie-breaker.

Farr 40: 1. Barking Mad, Jim Richardson (22) 2. Nerone, Massimo Mezzaroma & Antonio Sodo Migliori (27) 3. Virago, Stuart Townsend (43) Mumm 30: 1. Off the Gauge, Frank LeFort (41) 2. Paydirt, Kent Plunkett (41) 3. Steadfast, Fred Sherratt (50).
