Cressy Wins Overall Trophy at Marblehead NOOD

Rhodes 19 Jonathan Cressy makes his annual trip back to the Marblehead NOOD Regatta and is rewarded with a win, and a trip to the Caribbean.

MARBLEHEAD, Mass.-Sunday marked the fourth and final day of racing for the 187 boats competing at the 2007 Sperry Top-Sider National Offshore One Design (NOOD) Regatta in Marblehead. After four days of intense sailing, an overall winner has been declared and Jonathan Cressy of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., has captured the top spot in Marblehead with his Rhodes 19 The Opera Ain't Over Till The Fat Lady Sings. Cressy received a trip to Sunsail in the British Virgin Islands to compete against the winners from each of the additional eight stops on the Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta series. The Marblehead NOOD regatta held at the Boston Yacht Club featured 12 boat classes, 10 of which were won by local Massachusetts sailors, including Marblehead residents, Rob Gorman (Viper 640), Ron Vener (Corinthian), Mark Luckes (Etchells), Peter & Doug Morgan (J/105), David Bows (J/30), and Bill Lynn & Ed Keller (Sonar), who also earned the Norman Cressy Award for their performance on the water. Other Massachusetts sailors who led their fleet include Town Class winner Arthur O'Neill (Swampscott, MA), Colgate 26 winner John A. Created by Sailing World in 1988, the NOODs attract close to 2,000 boats and more than 30,000 competitors and spectators annually. Each event in the series features three days of sailboat racing for one-design models from 20 to 70 feet in length. In addition to local sailors, sailing's top stars - including America's Cup and Olympic champions - are well-represented at the NOODs.
