In this February 1995 'From the Experts' article, Steve Bourdow explains how Laser rigging was refined to a new level as Olympic sailors join the ranks of this popular one-design.
Ten years ago, Canadian sailor Andy Roy wrote the definitive Laser racing article for this magazine. I remember analyzing every word and using all the rigging tips and techniques, and gradually added a few of my own. Since then many things have changed, but the beauty of racing Lasers hasn't. I've just finished competing in my sixth Laser Worlds and have been racing Lasers for 15 years, but every time I hit the water, I am still challenged by this simple yet demanding boat. New Olympic status has revitalized a class that was already one of the strongest in the world. You won't find a boat anywhere that's more competitive than the Laser.
