A 60-foot motoryacht, a 37-foot crossover sailboat, and a new-concept rigging line all took first honors at the Newport International Boat Show in Rhode Island this past weeken. Judges named the Sea Spirit Passagemaker 60 "Best New Powerboat," the Santa Cruz SC37 "Best New Sailboat", and Paraloc Rigging Line "Best New Boating Product."

Paraloc Rigging Line, from R&W Rope of New Bedford, Massachusetts, is manufactured by Manutec AG of Switzerland. Ideal for use as halyards and sheets, the line eliminates creep and stretch by weaving the cover and the core as one unit.

The 100-percent carbon hull and deck, innovative lifting keel, and modern styling of the Santa Cruz SC37 caught the judges' eyes. They were most impressed by its design-- a true crossover suited for racing and cruising.  The SC37 in built by Santa Cruz Yachts of Green Cove, Florida.

Acclaimed by the judges as "perfectly hitting the design criteria for its class," Sea Spirit's Passagemaker 60-- designed by Sparkman & Stephens and the first in a line of long endurance motoryachts built by Queenship Marine of Vancouver, British Columbia-- was cited as having innovations in every aspect of its design.

Newport For New Products spotlights new boats and boating products that make significant contributions to the experience of recreational boating.   Sponsored by Cruising World, Sailing World, and Power Cruising magazines, the program recognizes the Newport show's unique place as the first United States boat show of the new model year and a show at which many domestic manufacturers choose to introduce newly launched products and foreign manufacturers first introduce their offerings to the American marketplace.   Judging is done by an independent panel of boating experts provided by the magazines and awards are given based on innovation, value to the consumer and aesthetics.
