Remembering the 1979 Fastnet
Would you know what to do if the wind started blowing above 60 knots in the middle of the night? Ted Turner, who helped _Tenacious _sail safely to victory in the deadly 1979 Fastnet Race recalls the storm: “The adrenaline was running, for sure, and I was at the helm for more than four hours. It was very difficult to see in the driving rain; at the top of the 35-foot waves, we could occasionally see the lights of the other boats still going toward Fastnet Lighthouse.” Read more here.
