The Harvard University Crimson won the 2002 Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association North American Team Race Championship with a perfect record of 17 wins and no losses. The Tufts University Jumbos placed second at 13-4, followed by last year’s winners, the Georgetown University Hoyas, who had 12 wins - 5 losses. College of Charleston finished fourth with a 8-9 record. Those four teams, having proven their prowess in the first two days by establishing the top four records, faced each other twice in a final round robin today.

In an interview with Derek Webster, Harvard coach Bern Noack, of Belmont, Mass., said, "when the tradewinds kicked in today, we had good boatspeed and boathandling." The rest, he attributed to, "a good team effort."
Sailing for the Crimson were four skippers including returning All-Americans Seaon Doyle, and Clay Bischoff. Sophomore Cardwell Potts and junior Dan Litchfield rounded out the Crimson skipper contingent for the event. Five crews who contributed to the effort were returning All-Americans Michelle Yu, and Susan Bonney in addition to seniors Lema Kikuchi, and Laura Knoll, and junior Gabe Dorfman.

Moving up from yesterday’s position of third place were the Tufts University Jumbos with a 16-1 record. The only race they lost was to Harvard. In an interview with Derek Webster, Coach Ken Legler, of Medford, Mass., said he was, "extremely pleased with the team's improvement and performance." He complimented the Crimson’s team racing ability, saying, "we’d make one mistake and it would be over." Skippers included returning All-American Pete Levesque, senior John Birkett and junior J.R. Maxwell. Crewing for the Jumbos were juniors Caroline Hall, Deane Madsen, Clare Dooley, and Matt Cohen, and sophomore Katie Shuman.

In an interview with Derek Webster, Georgetown University Hoyas coach Mike Callahan, of Daingerfield Island, Va., said his sailors "had a tough day. We had a winning combination down at the leeward mark in every race." Their record for today was 2-4, resulting in their moving down from second to third place overall. "A
first, second, and third place finish at this regatta in three years is a record to be proud of," Callahan went on to say. Hoyas skippers included returning All-Americans and seniors Brian Bissell and Ken Ward. Sophomore Tyler Haskell stepped up to bat when another skipper suffered a foot injury. Crewing for the Hoyas were returning All-American Leah Willliams, seniors Alex Holtan, Kat Penberthy, and Melanie Wood, and junior Shelly Wentworth, sophomore Eliza Ryan, freshman Barbara Hall.

Air and water temperatures continued their 80 degree streak, while winds began light and shifty, calling for two races to be re-started before steady 10 to 15 knot tradewinds filled in.
