EDHEC Calls For Collegiate and Graduate Sailors
The 45th Annual EDHEC Sailing Cup, run by students at the French Business School EDHEC, is looking for teams from across the pond to join the regatta in April.
Originally created by three students at the French Business School EDHEC in 1969, the EDHEC Sailing Cup is now organized by 50 EDHEC students and has become the largest European student sporting event. The regatta, which will be held from April 19-27 in Brest, France, is looking for more U.S. collegiate and graduate sailors to participate alongside the anticipated 3,000 students representing 22 countries at the 45th edition.
Olympian Anna Tunnicliffe recently offered her sponsorship for the event. “The EDHEC CUP has both the test of tactical skill and coastal legs,” says Tunnicliffe. “You’re always thinking two or three steps ahead, and adding the international benefit of an event like the EDHEC Sailing Cup—that is unique!”
François Gabart, the skipper of MACIF in this year’s Vendée Globe stated, “The EDHEC Sailing Cup remains a pioneer in high-level competitions since the beginning in 1969 and remains an event organized by students for students.”
Students race in one-designs, including the J/80, Open 5.7, and Longtze, and in monohulls of the French HN classes. Recently the event has expanded to include kiteboarding and multi-sport “Land Trophy.”
Schools that have participated in the EDHEC Cup in the past include MIT, UCLA, Oxford, Cambridge, HEC, École Polytechnique, and INSEAD.
