The 2012 Napa Valley Film Festival is showcasing the documentary film America's Cup: 150 Years in the Making. A special showing at the Napa Valley Opera House on November 9 will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Paul Cayard (CEO, Artemis Racing); Ian “Fresh” Burns (Oracle Racing Team); and Kimball Livingston (Screenwriter/sailing commentator).

A journey through the dramas of the oldest and grandest event—and the greatest obsession—in international sport. Narrator Walter Cronkite takes you behind the scenes, examining the Cup’s hold on some of the most powerful men of seven generations, each possessed in different ways by Cup fever. You’ve heard the names: Lipton and Vanderbilt, Ted Turner, Larry Ellison. Filmmaker PJ Panzica sails you across the decades from wooden-hulled grandeur to high-tech machines of carbon fiber, sailing on the edge, pushing to the limit. It begins as a calling. It becomes a way of life. Panzica’s original film will be augmented with spectacular recent footage of the newer 45 and 72-foot masted catamarans, the former of which thrilled audiences during the World Series regattas this Fall.
