J 70 Start Sperry Topsider Charleston Race Week
Wind and weather calmed a little on second day of racing at Sperry Topsider Charleston Race Week yesterday. 54
J70's lined up to start; but were a little early and prompted the RC to use Zulu flag to start them again.

Anthony Kouton - Winner Moth North American
Anthony Kouton overall winner of the Moth North Americans held in Charleston April 12-15. Sixteen competitors from the US and Australia traveled to Charleston SC for the third time this year. Hosted by the James Island Yacht Club, the racers were welcomed back in Charleston style - they enjoyed a great dinner at the home of the PRO. A lot of them will be staying for Sperry Topsider Charleston Race Week which begins Thursday, April 18.
Congratulations to Anthony on winning the 2013 Moth North American championship!

Club Sailor: from back to front
In the UK at least, there are only sailing books for newbies and Olympic wannabes.
But nothing for those stalwarts that only want to race at their clubs every week, perhaps with an occasional regatta for variety.
So I wrote the book to fill the gap.
As well as the normal start-beat-reach-run stuff (albeit with a refreshing slant) is the explanation why you always drop it in on the last gybe when doing better than usual. And sections on why luck is not just random chance.

Killer "B" Race version Bluenose Sloop Sunk in 80km winds
Dear Dr. Crash: I am having second thoughts about my open cockpit race version Bluenose Sloop. I know Roue' is Canada's most respected yacht designer and the yacht was originally designed with an open cockpit, but the McVay version self draining cockpit one that I also own made it through the 40 knot winds while the former did not.
What should I do? Stop sailing in winds past 25 knots? I can hear my Nova Scotia cousins growling at the thought as I type these very words.
