NOOD Returns to San Francisco
After a six-year hiatus, the Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta series finds its way back to St. Francis YC.
Sailing World, owner and organizer of the Sperry Top-Sider National Offshore One Design (NOOD) Regatta series, announced today that the newest addition to its 2010 schedule of nine regattas is a stop in San Francisco, Calif. The Sperry Top-Sider San Francisco NOOD Regatta will be hosted by the St. Francis Yacht Club and is set to take place on San Francisco Bay on June 26-27, 2010, with a possible June 25 start for classes hosting their class championships over a three-day period.
"As title sponsor of the Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta series, we are very pleased to add the Bay area to our lineup of exciting regattas in 2010," said Craig Reingold, President of Sperry Top-Sider. "We are looking forward to working with the St. Francis Yacht Club to offer an outstanding event to Bay-area sailors, and to sharing our passion for the sport of sailing."
The 2010 Sperry Top-Sider San Francisco NOOD Regatta will mark the series' return to the Bay area after a six-year absence. San Francisco was an annual regatta in the NOOD series from 1990-2003, with the St. Francis Yacht Club as the host.
"The club is very much looking forward to the return of the NOOD to the San Francisco Bay waters," said John Siegel, Chairman of the St. Francis Yacht Club's Executive Race Committee. "We are committed to providing a very high-quality event that is affordable and includes the great parties and festivities associated with the NOOD Regattas." In order to encourage a large turnout, the San Francisco NOOD is planning to have three courses: one for dinghies, one for one-design keelboats, and one for larger keelboats racing one-design or under IRC.
The addition of San Francisco will round out the NOOD's presence on the West Coast, following its events in San Diego, Calif., and Seattle, Wash.
The 2010 Sperry Top-Sider NOOD Regatta series schedule will also include stops in St. Petersburg, Fla., Annapolis, Md., Detroit, Mich., Chicago, Ill., Marblehead, Mass. and Larchmont, N.Y.
