March 18, 2002Second Day of NOOD packed with Drama and Carnageby Elizabeth CarrollYesterday’s breezy conditions escalated to an estimated 20 knots with puffs up to 25, which made for a second day packed with drama and carnage at the Sailing World San Diego NOOD regatta. A non-racing Capri 22 lost two crew members overboard, and kept sailing with the jib sheet cleated. The first person in the water was rescued by the Holder 20 "Overkill" owned by Jerry and Barbara Buk of Fallon, Nevada. The first on the scene, they dropped their jib immediately and pulled one man out of the water on the 2nd pass.

March 16, 2002Big Breeze adds drama to First Day of San Diego NOODby Libby CarrollA three-way tie in a fleet of just six Solings set the competitive mode on the first day of the Sailing World San Diego NOOD regatta. Big breeze added to the drama, for by the end of the day, puffs of up to 22 knots blew over Mission Bay. Skipper Ian Wareham, of Orcas Island, Wash., with crew Philo Lund and Tom Temple finished second aboard their Soling Ghostrider in the two races held. A late arrival to the racecourse, coupled with the fact that today was their first day sailing together tipped the odds against them. "We didn’t really have a strategy," said Lund.

Gulf of Maine Racing Assoication first race of the season, SailMaine Shakedown Regatta, kicked off on Saturday, June 8. "Sugar Sugar" leads the pack at the the start of the first race.
