Thirteen products won top honors and two earned honorable mentions from the National Marine Manufacturers Association at the Progressive Insurance Miami International Boat Show and Strictly Sail, which runs through Monday. Honorees were chosen from a total of 68 products in various categories, double the entries submitted last year. The judging panel included CW deputy editor Elaine Lembo and CW contributor Ed Sherman of the American Boat & Yacht Council. Winners in groupings from consumer electronics and software to safety equipment were named at an awards breakfast kicking off the show Thursday, February 16, 2012. The show runs through Monday, February 20, 2012. For the complete NMMA awards announcement, click here.

What's all this I hear about water ballast?
What's all this I hear about water ballast?
Dear Dr. Crash, What's all this I hear about water ballast? In my experience it just makes the boat very sluggish and doesn't stabilize it very well. It also makes for a wet and cold day on the water. Soggy in Sandusky
