Chicago-Mac reflections
Chicago-Mac reflections
Report AbuseI've wanted to participate in the Chicago to Mackinac race since I've known what it was and heard the tales, so extremely appreciative of the invite to race on Ray Teborek's 1970 S&S 50 named Challenge.
Currently on delivery back from Mackinac Island to Chicago on Challenge and reflecting on the experience of doing a fresh water "offshore" race, sailing on a vintage 50 footer with massive sail area (compared to a M30) and being the only chick with a crew of 13 guys!
In short...
I adore Lake Michigan but could do without the vampire black flies which fly out to feed off us sailors.
The saying, "If you don't like the weather, wait a minute or two"
Damn flies...
Sail change marathon!
Fresh baked bread for dinner!
The candy stash on both port and starboard sides of the boat...
Bats!
Spectacular lightning shows
More sail changes...
Fog
Hot coco
The smell of pine and horse poo...
Being wet...
Dry and hot...
Wet again...
There is far more to the tale of this gals' first ever Chicago-Mac but for now it's just key words and thoughts which dance through my head.
Very special thank you to the Teborek family for including me in a 10 year tradition.
Cheers!
