February 6, 2013Mainsail Trim PhotographyWhen photographing the mainsail from the foot to the head, place the camera just in front of the mainsheet, but far enough to windward so that the entire bottom draft stripe is visible (A). Rotate the camera so the lower draft stripe goes from corner to corner in the camera’s viewer, roughly 45 degrees to the boat’s axis. Get a small portion of the boom in the picture (B).

February 6, 2013Mainsail TrimTOP: The red dot on the genoa luff (A) is used as a reference point to place in the forward corner of frame. Try to get the back of the lower stripe to the corner of the frame (B), which requires rotating the camera 45 degrees to the boat’s centerline. I should have rotated slightly more here. Position the camera at the center of the foot (C), 50 percent of the distance from the clew to tack, and on a straight line from clew to tack or slightly to weather.
