June 26, 2012Leukemia Cup Regatta at the Great Lakes Yacht ClubThe Great Lakes Yacht Club has raised over $500,000 since they began hosting their Leukemia Cup Regatta, and this year proved to be just as fruitful as years past. Nearly 30 boats sailed on May 19th in the three-race regatta on Lake St. Clair in order to raise funds for blood cancer research and patient services. The top fundraiser for the year was Trey Rose, a member of the Crescent Sail Yacht Club who raised $6,090 in memory of his co-worker John Balconi.

He's the third ever British skipper to finish on the podium, and set a new non-stop 'round the world record for a solo British sailor.

June 20, 20122012 Orange Coffee Pot Regatta Highlights Video31 lasers competed at Surf City Yacht Club at the June 2nd Jack Elfman Orange Coffee Pot Regatta this year. The full-rig winner was Clay Johnson, with only 6 points in 7 races after his drop, and the radial winner was Kelly McGlynn, also with just 6 points. Video credit goes to Jon Deutsch, who taped much of the regatta from the bow of his boat, and arranged some of the highlights in this compilation. With the breeze hanging between 10-17 knots, it was a glorious day of sailing.
