Sparkling Wine by Codorníu

Sparkling Wine by Codorníu

This Catalonian vintage is affordable enough to be wasted on post-race tomfoolery, but we suggest you savor it in a flute glass.

Please Don't Spray It: Codorniu Pinot Noir Rose Brut has a crisp, dry taste with accents of berries and citrus.

I've always thought the tradition of victorious sailors showering themselves in champagne is kind of silly-mainly because I prefer drinking my champagne, thank you very much.

I didn't have many on-the-water victories to celebrate this year, but I did have the chance to sample an excellent bottle of champagne. Actually, it was sparkling wine, of the Cava variety, produced in the Penedès region of Catalonia. Codorníu Pinot Noir Rosé Brut, as its name implies, is pink in color and dry in taste, with a bouquet reminiscent of raspberries and a citrusy finish.

What qualifies me to evaluate sparkling wine, you ask? Absolutely nothing. But I thoroughly enjoyed the bottle of Codorníu I polished off one recent evening while watching some old episodes of "The State" on DVD. The bubbles added a refreshing zing to those forgotten comedy sketches, and the Cava's fruity aroma paired especially well with the Blueberry Johnson skit.

At $15, the refined Codorníu Pinot Noir Rosé Brut is surprisingly affordable-affordable enough to spray all over your crew, if that's your thing.

What's all this I hear about water ballast?
What's all this I hear about water ballast?
Dear Dr. Crash, What's all this I hear about water ballast? In my experience it just makes the boat very sluggish and doesn't stabilize it very well. It also makes for a wet and cold day on the water. Soggy in Sandusky
