"Not bad." That was the straight-up assessment of Puma Ocean Racing bowman Jerry Kirby when asked about the taste of the energy supplements they'd be taking around the world. It was last summer, in the early days of their pre-race training, that the crew of Puma Ocean Racing was field testing GU Energy Gels. The stuff, apparently, is like rocket fuel, and has now powered the Puma squad around the planet.

GU Energy, a company founded by West Coast sailor Brian Bond, is well known among endurance athletes, but this is the company's first foray into sailing. They've been supplying the team with its bite-size energy gels and electrolyte replacement drink (called Gu2o).
